In your interview we will be interested to find out more about you and your motivations for wanting to study physiotherapy, especially here at University of Essex. It can be really helpful if you are able to gain some experience shadowing physiotherapists in a variety of environments to really inform you about the profession, but we do understand that this isn't always possible. If you aren't able to get any direct experience, make sure you research a broad range of the different areas that physiotherapists work in instead - out in the community and within hospitals as well as in clinic environments, and be able to talk to us about what you know in your interview.
We also look to recruit students who understand and share the values of the NHS Constitution, as although not all physiotherapists work in the NHS these values are applicable across all areas of healthcare.
If you aren't already familiar with these NHS values they are:
- Working together for patients. Patients come first in everything we do.
- Respect and dignity. We value every person – whether patient, their families or carers, or staff – as an individual, respect their aspirations and commitments in life, and seek to understand their priorities, needs, abilities and limits.
- Commitment to quality of care. We earn the trust placed in us by insisting on quality and striving to get the basics of quality of care – safety, effectiveness and patient experience right every time.
- Compassion. We ensure that compassion is central to the care we provide and respond with humanity and kindness to each person’s pain, distress, anxiety or need.
- Improving Lives. We strive to improve health and wellbeing and people’s experiences of the NHS
- Everyone Counts. We maximise our resources for the benefit of the whole community, and make sure nobody is excluded, discriminated against or left behind.
You can find out more about the NHS Constitution and these values on the
government website as well as on the
NHS Health Careers website where you can also test yourself against the values.
Good luck preparing for your interview!!
