MA335: Evolutionary Algorithms
Hi, I'm Mario Gutiérrez-Roig. Welcome to this taster material for MA336 where we will be starting to look at evolutionary algorithms.
One way to find the best solution for a particular problem is by providing a first suboptimal solution and then perform small incremental changes that improve that solution and eventually find the optimal one. This is the approach of the evolutionary algorithms and one of the pillars of the operations research , a discipline that studies how a particular procedure, algorithm or method used in many different problems from engineering to logistics, can be improved or optimised.
Sample week
This is a sample week from the MA3356: Artificial intelligence and machine learning with applications module. Why don't you watch the video and have a look at exercises below?

We can now put into practise the evolutionary algorithms in a very curious and fun way: reproducing famous paintings.
